Samuel Whitbread Academy is a popular and highly successful upper school (Years 9-13) of 1650 students which includes 450 in the Sixth Form and is the largest school in Central Bedfordshire.

We offer an exceptional academic and extracurricular experience in an outstanding learning environment where students are expected to work hard and achieve their best. We are a member of the Bedfordshire Schools Trust (BEST) a learning community of five nurseries and ten schools, providing outstanding all-through 0-19 education. In our last Ofsted inspection, we were judged as ‘Good’ with many outstanding features and over the next three years we have set ourselves the target of being Outstanding!

Are you ready to make a difference as a school governor? Samuel Whitbread Academy has vacancies for two parent governors to join its governing body. We welcome applicants with different backgrounds, skills and experience, who share a common interest of wanting the best possible education for the pupils in our school. We're particularly interested in those with experience of Special Education Needs (SEN), Sixth Form or Behaviour. These volunteer roles are strategic rather than operational. You won't get involved with the day-to-day running of a school, instead you'll support and challenge the school to drive improvement. You'll get an insight into what it takes to run a big upper school, help shape its future success, inform how it should respond to external pressures and how it should organise and evaluate itself to give the best education for all its pupil. Being a school governor is a commitment and a responsibility, but offers you the chance to see first-hand the impact you can make in improving education for your children. Interested? Contact the Clerk to the Governing Body for further information SWA-Clerk@bestacademies.org.uk.
