Key Stage 3 & 4 (yEARS 9-11)

When commencing their studies at Samuel Whitbread Academy in Year 9, our students have a broad and balanced curriculum offer from the start. This is carefully blended to ensure academic progress and enable opportunities to experience the option subjects that will be available to students from Year 10 onwards.

At the heart of our effective KS4 curriculum is a strong academic core, with all students studying GCSEs in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Science (either Combined Science or Separate Science) as well as a humanities subject. Our Key Stage 4 options offer is second to none and contains an ambitious choice of academic, vocational and technical qualifications. This curriculum offer has been designed to give all pupils the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life and support them to excel within their future destinations.

Post 16 (YEARS 12-13)

The size of the Sixth Form at Samuel Whitbread Academy means our curriculum offer at Post 16 is extensive and highly ambitious. We offer 25 A Level courses and a further 13 Vocational courses. Following the government reforms to A Levels, we recommend that students study three courses (with the exception of some of the most able students and students taking Further Maths who often take four).  Alongside these courses, we offer a range of extracurricular courses including Maths Studies and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) which is highly regarded by Universities.
