Samuel Whitbread Academy

Library

Welcome to the SWA library

Opening Hours:
Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Friday: 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Our fully refurbished library is open throughout the school day, providing a welcoming space for both academic study and reading for pleasure. With nearly 7,000 books, including fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, manga, and dyslexia-friendly titles, there’s something for everyone. Located at the end of the Street, the library is open to all students and staff, with around 800 students visiting each week. Chromebooks are available for independent study and homework.

The library offers a quiet environment for both individual and collaborative study. Sixth formers can use the space during free lessons, and Year 9 students have timetabled sessions. After-school study sessions run daily for students from all year groups.

Beyond academic support, we actively encourage reading for pleasure. Twice a week, students can drop in for quiet reading sessions during break. The library also hosts lunchtime socials, including board games, crafts, and online author events. For avid readers, VIP days provide a peaceful space to enjoy books away from the bustle of school life. Book displays and suggested reading lists are regularly updated to reflect themes and celebrations.

Library Management System: Libresoft

Our library system, Libresoft, is accessible at school and home. To search our catalogue without a login, just follow the link. To log in, students will need to use the login details sent to their school email address, and update their password once they have logged in.  Students can browse and reserve books, write reviews, and check loan details once they have done this. If you have trouble accessing your account, please contact Mrs Mills at kmills@bestacademies.org.uk.

Get Involved

Students can apply to become student librarians, helping with shelving, book recommendations, and creating student-led displays. The library is constantly evolving to meet students' needs, and we welcome book requests and suggestions via our suggestions box, in person, or by email.
