Year 10 Food: From Afternoon Tea to Paris

It has been a busy and rewarding term for our Year 10 Food students, who have demonstrated their creativity, practical skills and enthusiasm both in the classroom and beyond.
The term culminated in the students' Afternoon Tea assessment, where they were challenged to design, prepare and serve a three-course afternoon tea from scratch for invited parents. Taking full ownership of their menus, students showcased an impressive range of creative themes, from the imaginative world of Alice in Wonderland to vibrant Mexican-inspired celebrations. Their planning, presentation and culinary skills were on full display, with guests thoroughly impressed by the quality of the dishes produced.
Building on their classroom learning, students also enjoyed an unforgettable trip to Paris, where they explored the city's rich food culture and culinary traditions. Highlights included a visit to a traditional French food market, sampling local produce and pastries, a tour of some of Paris' most iconic landmarks, and an interactive workshop at the Chocolate Museum, where students created their own chocolate bars.
The trip also included a visit to Disneyland Paris, where students enjoyed the attractions before sharing a meal together at Billy Bob's Tex-Mex buffet. The experience concluded with two spectacular drone show displays, providing a memorable end to a fantastic visit.

Throughout the term, our Year 10 Food students have embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, creativity and maturity, whether developing their practical cooking skills or broadening their understanding of food and culture beyond the classroom. They represented Samuel Whitbread Academy brilliantly, and we would like to thank the staff who organised and supported these experiences, helping to make them such a valuable part of the students' learning journey.
