Fieldwork in Action: Year 12 in Dorset

Hands-on data collection and independent research bring geography to life.
At the beginning of March, our Year 12 Geography students spent a week at Leeson House in Dorset as part of their A-level residential fieldwork. This trip plays a key role in supporting their Non-Examined Assessment (NEA), which contributes 20% of their final grade.
During the week, students developed their own geographical research questions and selected appropriate methods and sampling strategies to investigate them. The first few days were spent exploring the local area, testing ideas, and trialling a range of data collection techniques, including beach profiling and soil pH testing.
On the return journey, students were rewarded with visits to the iconic Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove, where they also enjoyed some well-earned local ice cream.

Leeson House staff praised the students for their outstanding conduct in the field, as well as their exemplary manners and cleanliness throughout the stay.
We are incredibly proud of how our students represented the school and the enthusiasm they showed towards their geographical studies.
