A World of Discovery: SWA Celebrates International Day

On Friday 13th February, Samuel Whitbread Academy celebrated its annual International Day, a wonderful occasion recognising the diverse cultures and heritage of our school community.
Students took part in a vibrant non-uniform day, proudly wearing traditional national dress or outfits inspired by the colours of a flag they identify with. Across the school, the atmosphere was full of colour, creativity and energy.
Our canteens joined in the celebrations with a specially curated international menu, giving students the chance to explore flavours from around the world. Meanwhile, a range of exciting activities allowed Year 9 students to engage with global cultures, including:
-
African drumming workshops
-
MFL cultural music competitions
-
Exploring the influence of spices on history and food
-
Discovering the impact of world music
-
International dance challenges
-
Team games celebrating global heritage
In keeping with the spirit of the day, students made a £1.50 donation for the non-uniform day, with all proceeds going to Save the Children to support children in need across the globe. We are pleased to report the academy raised a grand total of £1,200.00 towards Save the Children.

Thank you to our students, staff, and the Equality and Diversity Team for making International Day such a colourful, inspiring, and meaningful celebration!
