Samuel Whitbread Academy

Remembrance at Samuel Whitbread Academy

This year, the academy marked Remembrance Day with a series of meaningful events that brought our community together in reflection and gratitude.

On the 11th of November, we held a Remembrance Service that was broadcast across schools within the BEST Trust. The service featured poetry and thoughtful contributions from students and staff at Shefford Lower School, Robert Bloomfield Academy, Pix Brook Academy and Samuel Whitbread Academy. Our Year 9 student Reuben L beautifully honoured the two minutes of silence by performing The Last Post. His performance was incredibly moving, and we extend our sincere thanks to him.

Our students also represented the academy at local Remembrance Sunday services in Shefford, Clifton and Henlow. Nuala, Freya and Bailey attended on behalf of SWA, and each laid a wreath in honour of those who have served and sacrificed. We are extremely proud of the respect and maturity they demonstrated.

As part of our commemorations, Year 9 students were invited to write their own Remembrance poems. The winning entry, In Fields of Silence, was written by Nuala. Her powerful and thoughtful piece was recognised for its emotional depth and creativity. A huge well done to her for this impressive achievement.

Together, these events highlight the importance our academy places on remembrance and the commitment of our students to honouring the past.
