Labour Market Information (LMI)
LMI is data about jobs and industries that help us understand the economy. It is a useful tool to help research future jobs in the local area, understand the skills needed for certain roles and the demand for future employment.
LMI helps students explore and investigate key aspects of a particular area of employment, including;
- Sectors, industries and businesses that operate
- Jobs that exist
- The number and type of vacancies available
- Sectors and industries that are predicted to grow and increase in the coming years.
- Travel to work routes
- Skills that are/will be needed by industries and businesses
- Pay and progression routes.
We would like to help ensure our students are aware of how their subject and course choices can open career options but can also close them down.
We know that it is crucial that young people need to hear about careers, work and job roles from the ‘experts’ – the people doing those jobs. We encourage students to ask visitors, speakers and employers about their career progression routes to help them recognise paths that are not necessarily linear.
Each year, we inform all students in all year groups of the local LMI to ensure all are up-to-date. Please see here for the 2025 recording that was presented to all students via a registration tutorial with the form tutor.
