Autumn Excursions

Students have travelled far and wide this half-term!

Year 10 Explore University Life at Pembroke College, Cambridge.

Our Year 10 students enjoyed a sunny day visiting Pembroke College for an inspiring KS4 taster day. The trip aimed to give students a glimpse into university life.

Throughout the visit, students heard directly from staff and current undergraduates in talks that focused on post-16 pathways and how to build strong academic profiles. The students then took part in a Q&A session, where they were able to ask undergraduates directly about study habits, college life and what it is really like to study at a top university.

After a guided tour of Pembroke College’s historic grounds, students then attended taster sessions tailored to their interests in either STEM or Humanities subjects. These interactive workshops challenged students to think critically and experience university-style learning firsthand.

A huge thank you to the staff team whose hard work made this trip possible and to Pembroke College for providing such a memorable experience for our students!

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time – Theatre Trip

GCSE and A Level Drama students swapped the classroom for the theatre, taking a trip to Milton Keynes Theatre to see the incredible play, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

The play revolves around a teenager seeking to solve a mystery while dealing with various family troubles. The students were inspired by the spectacular theatrical techniques that provided a powerful insight into how the teenager's autism impacts her perception of the world.

The trip allowed students to see the professional staging of this play in action, aiding in their live theatre question writing. From the opening scene, the innovative use of physical theatre and live music left the students astonished.

“It was a thought-provoking performance on how people with autism experience life and how that affects others” – Jamie G

Thank you to the wonderful Performing Arts department for organising such an insightful trip!

High Attainer students explore University Life at Wadham College, Oxford.

Our Year 10 High Attainer students visited Wadham College, Oxford this October, offering them an exciting insight into higher education.

During the day, the students were offered an insight into the history of the university with a guided tour of the campus and college grounds. Later followed by a hands-on escape room activity, putting their problem-solving and critical thinking skills to the test as they raced against the clock.

After enjoying a wonderful lunch provided by the college, the group then participated in a Q&A panel with current Oxford student ambassadors, giving them the chance to ask questions about university courses, student life, and the application process.

It was an inspiring and memorable experience, encouraging students to begin to visualise their future academic journeys.

Thank you to our staff who continue to create such fantastic opportunities!

We would also like to thank the staff and students at Wadham College for creating such a helpful and welcoming environment!

Our Year 12 and 13 A Level PE students had a fantastic day at Silverstone this September.

Students began with a visit to the Aston Martin F1 HQ, where they had a guided tour around their amazing facilities. After an intriguing tour in the morning, our A Level students made their way over to the Silverstone track for a museum tour there.

Students then attended a STEM workshop on the history of motor sport, learning about the technology and commercialisation of motor sport. A truly insightful way to end the day!

This was such an exciting experience for our students, where they were able to link their knowledge of biomechanics and the history of sport with the scientific elements of the F1 cars.

What a brilliant day for staff and students!
