Samuel Whitbread Academy

Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Success!

Earlier this term, our Silver Duke of Edinburgh participants travelled to the beautiful Peak District to complete their Silver Qualifying Expedition.

After arriving on Monday, students settled into their accommodation before taking a walk into the local town to familiarise themselves with the area ahead of the week. Tuesday was spent making final preparations, with students developing essential expedition skills including route planning, navigation, kit packing and Trangia stove cooking.

From Wednesday to Friday, students embarked on their assessed expedition, navigating independently through the Peak District each day before cooking and camping together as teams each evening. Throughout the expedition, they demonstrated resilience and teamwork, putting into practice the skills they had developed over many months of preparation.

The students were a real credit to Samuel Whitbread Academy, approaching every challenge with enthusiasm, maturity and a positive attitude. Blessed with fantastic weather throughout the week, they enjoyed a memorable experience while successfully completing this important stage of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

A huge thank you goes to all the staff who dedicated their time to planning, organising and supporting the expedition. Their commitment and encouragement helped make the experience such a success for our students.
