Performing Arts January News

January has been a busy and inspiring month for Performing Arts students, with professional workshops, theatre trips and exciting rehearsal room buzz across the department.
Dance Workshops with Devon Young
Our GCSE and A Level Dance students were thrilled to take part in a high-energy workshop led by professional dancer and choreographer Devon Young. Devon has performed with artists including Dua Lipa, Lizzo, Dave and Sister Sledge, and has appeared in major productions such as Dance 100 on Netflix and feature films.
Students loved learning her hip-hop routine and were hugely inspired by her honest and encouraging advice about careers in the dance industry. It was a fantastic opportunity to work with an industry professional and gain real insight into life beyond the classroom. Huge thanks to Devon for such an empowering session.

Huge congratulations to Harley!
Yr 12 dance student, Harley, has successfully auditioned for Boy Blue Youth, a nationally renowned and highly respected street dance company based in London.
As a result, he’ll now be travelling to London every Sunday to train with Boy Blue Youth for the foreseeable future, an incredible commitment and achievement.
Boy Blue features on the GCSE Dance curriculum, so many of our students will know just how prestigious this opportunity is. We’re incredibly proud of Harley and can’t wait to see where this takes him.

Drama Trip to Dear England
Last week, our GCSE and A Level Drama students travelled to Milton Keynes to watch Dear England, the acclaimed play exploring Gareth Southgate’s time as England manager. The production was visually stunning, featuring powerful performances, clever staging and impressive special effects.
Students and staff alike were captivated by the show, which was by turns funny, moving and thought-provoking, with some remarkably convincing portrayals of well-known figures. The trip provided excellent inspiration and valuable context for students’ own performance and written work.

The Addams Family – Rehearsals Begin!
Excitement is already building for our summer musical, The Addams Family. Following successful auditions last week, rehearsals officially began, and the cast got straight to work bringing this darkly wicked and hilariously entertaining show to life. We can’t wait to see it take shape over the coming months.
