Whitbread Mixed Sports

Basketball
On Wednesday 13th January, our U14 and U16 girls’ basketball teams competed in the County Finals at the Bedford Bunyan Centre. Both teams performed exceptionally, navigating a tough tournament and securing places in the National Stages. The U14 girls are now among the last 32 in the country and will face a London-based team on 9th February, while the U16s progress to the last 64, with their match taking place on Wednesday 28th January.

Cross Country
Our cross-country team tackled the district competition, and all that hard work running in circles certainly paid off! We are delighted to announce that 11 of our runners have qualified for the County Finals in Ampthill. The course was challenging, but students handled the mud and hills brilliantly. Special recognition goes to O. Weddell for an outstanding run, and to the ever-consistent Sarll twins. N. Mills also secured a medal, while C. Domingo and the boys showed strong performances throughout. Well done to the entire team for their determination and grit!

Badminton
Our Year 11 badminton team took part in the District competition this week, with fantastic results. The girls’ team delivered a solid performance to finish 5th overall, showing resilience against tough opponents. The boys’ team played exceptionally well, reaching the final and finishing 2nd overall in a nail-biting finish. Standout performances included E. Ming Wai Low, whose leadership as captain guided the team to the final, J. Taylor & N. Phillips, whose doubles play was inspirational, and P. Harris, who secured key wins as the first seed. Congratulations to all players for their skill, commitment, and for representing the Academy so brilliantly!
Trampolining
Whitbread is back on the trampolining map! E. Duignan (Year 9) has been leading the charge with a string of impressive performances. Most recently, she competed in the Zonal competition in Cardiff, achieving an outstanding 3rd-place finish. This result qualifies her for the National Finals in March – a huge achievement that makes us all incredibly proud of her dedication and representation of the Academy at the highest level.
