Former SWA Student Returns to Inspire the Next Generation of Filmmakers

We were delighted to welcome former student and BAFTA winner Hayder Rothschild Hoozeer back to Samuel Whitbread Academy, where he visited our Film and Media students to screen his award-winning short film, Rock, Paper, Scissors and held a fantastic Q&A.
Hayder’s visit was not only a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, but also a truly inspiring experience for our students. During a thoughtful and engaging Q&A session, he offered valuable insider knowledge about the film industry, sharing candid advice on how to get started, the importance of working your way up as a runner, and the confidence it takes to ask for opportunities and pursue your goals with determination.
Rock, Paper, Scissors, directed by Hayder Rothschild Hoozeer, is a powerful short film based on the true story of a Ukrainian soldier. It follows a father and son who are running a makeshift hospital, forced to make an impossible decision when soldiers approach their building. The film presents a moving and thought-provoking portrayal of resilience and sacrifice during times of conflict.
We are incredibly grateful to Hayder for taking the time to visit and for sharing his experiences so openly. His words had a lasting impact on both students and staff, and we look forward to following his journey as he continues to pursue excellence in filmmaking. We wish him every success.
