BEST ever GCSE results at Samuel Whitbread Academy
Following on from last week’s best ever A Level results, students at Samuel Whitbread have this week achieved the best ever GCSE results, with 71% of students gaining a 9-4 in English and maths. A total of 35 students, well above the national average, gained one or more of the new grade 9s in English or maths, which are only given out to the very best of the best.
There were a number of individual highlights this year with several students achieving top grades across the board. Beth Warriner, who achieved grade 9s in English and maths, said: “I am really happy with my results and I’d like to thank all my teachers, especially English and music, who really helped me through all the pressure of my exams.” Kieran Cawley, who achieved three grade 9s alongside 6A* grades said: “thank you to all my teachers who supported me to achieve these results. I’m delighted!”
Principal Nick Martin said: “I am absolutely thrilled that all the hard work by students and staff has paid off so spectacularly this year. With all the changes to the maths and English GCSEs we were understandably a bit anxious about how this would affect the students’ grades, but they have risen to the challenge and done incredibly well.”
The CEO of Bedfordshire Schools Trust (BEST), Dr Alan Lee, said: “these results are sensational, representing an 18% improvement in just two years. Everyone in the Whitbread community, following suitable celebrations, is focussed on making the BEST even better.”
