Head of Subject's Perspective

"I joined the science department as an NQT in 2013 and am now Head of Chemistry. There is opportunity to progress if you are hardworking and passionate about teaching. The department is constantly striving to improve and the students have a fantastic attitude to succeed. There is a real mix of experience and personalities amongst the teaching staff and the school is expansive so there are lots opportunities to take on different roles and responsibilities. If you want a challenging and rewarding career, then SWA is the place to be."
Dan Hardy

A teacher working towards qts's Perspective

"This academic year marks my second at Samuel Whitbread, last year the school appointed me as a cover supervisor linked to the Science and PE departments but also covering wider subject areas. I began this role knowing that my goal was to become a fully qualified teacher in the very near future.

Armed with previous teaching experience, enthusiasm and classroom management I settled in very quickly and within a year of appointment I was offered the opportunity to undergo on the job training in Science to obtain QTS. This year has been challenging yet enjoyable as the department have been very supportive and encouraging throughout."

What the students have to say

"Samuel Whitbread has provided me with opportunities to develop not only academically but also as an individual. The support that is provided for students on the behalf of the staff but also from peers ensures a sense of community in the school, which helps us students to thrive to achieve our dreams and has helped to build our confidence and self-belief that anything is achievable if you set your mind to it. "

Juliette, Year 12

"Throughout my time at Samuel Whitbread, I have felt fully supported by the teachers who not only help you strive to achieve better but also care about how you are progressing. If you go looking for help at this school, any one of the staff members would be happy to help, even if they do not teach you themselves. This helps create a welcoming atmosphere where everyone is equal and the opportunities available are open to everyone. I have found Samuel Whitbread to be a fantastic choice, for both my GCSE's and my A Levels because of the support which is provided by the staffing team."
