A Message from Principal, Mr Martin

As we move through a busy and rewarding half-term, I would like to share some recent highlights from across the academy and thank you for your continued support.

Our Year 11 and Year 13 students have shown excellent focus and maturity throughout their mock examinations, helping to create a calm and purposeful atmosphere in school. These assessments will provide valuable guidance for both students and staff as we prepare for the summer exams.

Preparations for the pantomime and Performing Arts Showcase are progressing brilliantly, with students demonstrating impressive levels of creativity and commitment. We look forward to welcoming families to these events. Further details can be found below.

We are also preparing for the Year 9 Options Evening, which will give students and families the chance to explore the wide range of subjects available at Key Stage 4 and to make informed choices about next steps. In addition, our recent Careers Event and Sixth Form Open Evening were both great successes, offering students a wealth of information about future pathways and opportunities.

Our sporting achievements continue to make us proud. Most recently, our U19 netball team were crowned County Champions, with the 2nd VII securing an excellent fourth-place finish. These results reflect the dedication and teamwork of our students. You can read more about our wider sporting success here.

As we approach the end of term, I would like to thank students, staff and families for their hard work and support. We look forward to a restful winter break and to returning refreshed for the new term.

Messages From Heads of Year

Year 9, Mr Rich

As we step into the colder and darker months, it is such a joy to see our students excelling; exemplary teamwork at our sports fixtures, a massive uptake in after-school clubs, and dedication in the classroom.
As we build towards Christmas, teachers will start planting the seeds for decisions around GCSEs, but long, long before that, we have our wonderful PRE and Options evening on Thursday the 4th, to showcase and explain all the brilliant options we have on offer.

We also have Tutee’s first reports to delve into, and provide students with a moment of reflection upon how they have started and settled in their subjects, and where they may need to build up the engagement.

Please keep an eye out for the brilliant trips, and we look forward to celebrating this festive month with the students.

All the Best

Mr Rich

Year 10, Mrs Joy

Our Year 10 cohort has been busy this term. Inside and outside the classroom, they are working extremely hard!

Our students have attended many sporting fixtures, dance and drama rehearsals and trips aplenty! The atmosphere in the classrooms is positive and engaging. It is lovely to hear students being inquisitive, settling in and enjoying their new option subjects.

Our Year 10 reports are due shortly, giving students an opportunity to reflect on their performance so far and make adjustments if needed. Keep an eye out for the many opportunities available for our students.

We are all looking forward to the festive period, including the Christmas Performing Arts showcase, Pantomime, and especially celebrating individual successes, in the last week of term!

Best wishes

Mrs Joy

Year 11, Mrs Godfrey

They've made it through the first big term of Year 11! We are incredibly proud of how our Year 11 students handled the exam period. We've been really impressed by their efforts and the level of maturity they've shown.

Now that the mocks are finished (with the exception of Art and Textiles), we really need them to keep that brilliant concentration going for the next few weeks. Keeping the momentum high now will make a difference next year!

The Christmas break is just around the corner! It's going to be a well-deserved rest for them to properly switch off, chill out, and enjoy time with their friends and family.

Best wishes
Mrs Godfrey

Year 12, Mr Tonking

Our Year 12s are currently running the Rotary Shoebox Appeal, collecting items to help disadvantaged people across Eastern Europe. They are collecting items from other form groups across the school, modelling the community spirit we believe makes SWA special. We are making this a friendly competition between form groups in Year 12 for who can fill the most shoeboxes. We would love the help and support of parents by contributing to the appeal with any suitable items. There is further information here, should you need any guidance.

Year 13, Mrs Hoad

At the time of writing we have sent 51 amazing UCAS applications – and our Year 13 students are getting some very exciting offers.  We hope to send all applications in by the end of this term.  We also have many students who are working hard on apprenticeship applications and searching for those next steps.  A reminder that there are many resources to explore on the students' Unifrog accounts, and their Google classrooms plus the National Apprenticeship website.  IPEs are well underway and teachers will report back marks to students in class as soon as they are marked.

We understand that for many students this can be a stressful time to think about their options after Sixth Form, and remind them that they can have an appointment with our independent careers adviser (email or visit Room 902).
