A Message from Principal, Mr Martin

This week, a record number of students attended our Sixth Form Open Evening, Year 11 tutor evening and careers convention. We have held these three events on the same evening for a number of years; the evening is designed to provide our students, and external students, the opportunity to talk to as many people as possible about their future plans.  The careers exhibitors were full of praise for our students and stressed how much they enjoyed talking to young people about their aspirations and ambitions. These events take an enormous amount of time and effort to organise and I would like to thank the careers and Sixth Form team for all their hard work in planning such a successful evening. For more information about applying to our Sixth Form please visit our website.

Over the next few weeks we have our Year 11 & 13 mock exams. This will provide our students with a fantastic opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses; build their examination stamina; test their revision strategies and experience exam conditions. We wish them the very best of luck!

The rehearsals for the pantomime Sleeping Beauty, and Performing Arts Showcase are progressing well and tickets are already on sale. The set designers and technical team are working hard on the lights and staging. Please see below for details and how to purchase your tickets.

We’ve had some great results in sport this week, in rugby, football and basketball. Please see below for details.

Please note that the BEST Academic Calendar for 2022-23 has been updated to include the additional May Bank Holiday for the King’s coronation, this can be found on our website please click here.

Finally, last Friday we had our joint Remembrance Day, with staff and students from RBA, Shefford Lower School and BEST, which included over 3000 people. It was a truly wonderful event and very moving to see students of all ages coming together across the three schools.

Messages From Heads of Year

Year 10, Mrs L Clark

November has been a busy month for our Year 10s both inside and outside of school! We are always immensely proud of our students, but this month we have been overjoyed to hear of a range of extra-curricular successes including one of our students participating in an international golf tournament and several students participating in national dance competitions. We also have one student participating in auditions for a national talent competition! Outside of sport and the Arts, several students have been participating in a highly coveted Navy experience trip, spending time on a war ship with navy experts. A thrilling experience that we are looking forward to hearing all about!

Please do continue to share with us your child's successes and experiences outside of school. It is fantastic to be able to celebrate with them. Thank you for your continuing to support.

It was a pleasure to see so many Year 10 students attend our Remembrance Service on 11th November and to see a number of students attend school wearing their cadets and services uniforms. As always, we are pleased to see the great level of respect demonstrated by our Year 10 students.

Year 13, Mr C Tonking

All UCAS appointments up to Christmas are fully booked; this is a fantastic response from our Year 13s. The Sixth Form team is super impressed with how organised and mature the year group has been throughout this process. There are appointments available for January, and we will make sure our students meet the 25th January national USCA deadline. We also need to remind students to have their application complete, pay their fee and send their application before the appointment. We will build some more time into registration to help students prepare for the deadline.

After applications are sent we will spend time focussing on alternative routes and provide updates on how we can support students in due course. In the meantime we encourage students to keep researching and applying for any other opportunity they may be interested in. Career appointments are available these can book through the Sixth Form team.

A massive well done to our two debate teams for being involved in the first round of the international debate competition on 16th November. Both the junior and senior team have reached the semi-finals, after they delivered a fantastic performance in round one.

The picture shows just some of our team, who are a small part of our expanding and successful SWA debate club. They all deserve our hearty congratulations for scoring highly on all three areas of the judging rubric that evaluated their material, method and manner. They made me incredibly proud.
