Extra Curricular Opportunities
Enrichment through Extra-Curricular Opportunities
Opportunities for extra-curricular activities at Samuel Whitbread Academy are very extensive. We regularly arrange visits to theatres, field centres, historical sites, exhibitions, foreign countries and major sporting events such as Wimbledon. Extracurricular clubs and opportunities are facilitated by late buses which run throughout our catchment area and beyond, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The vast majority of our clubs and extracurricular activities happen on these days and the buses (leaving the academy at 4.30pm) are free to all students.
Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh award scheme challenges young people aged 14 to 25 throughout the world to serve others, acquire new skills, experience adventure and make new friends. Each award should add purpose and pleasure to a young person's life. Their achievements are widely recognised in education and employment. Students may enter at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, usually in years Ten, Eleven and Twelve respectively.
All students take part in curriculum-based physical activity each week and have opportunities to join in an incredibly wide range of sports clubs. We have excellent sporting facilities at the academy and across the Bedfordshire East Multi Academy Trust. A fully equipped sports hall, large gymnasium, activities hall, dance studios, 8 tennis courts, 6 netball courts, extensive field space and a new weights gym show just how fortunate we are.
There are many extra curricular opportunities for students interested in The Arts subjects at Samuel Whitbread. From engineering to dance, there are opportunities available for any student who wishes to learn and take their skills further.
