Samuel Whitbread Academy

KS3

We believe that every student should have the OPPORTUNITY to ACHIEVE and EXCEL. At Samuel Whitbread high attainment, ambition and aspiration are celebrated. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves in every aspect of school life.

Upon entry the Academy uses KS2 SATs data, as well as transition meetings in the Summer Term to identify prior to September higher attaining (HA) students. In addition, all Y9 students sit GL assessments in Maths and Science and a NGRT (reading assessment) to further identify HA students. After the first Autumn half term, staff are asked to complete a Google form considering those who are specifically HA in their subject: those that may show a particular aptitude, knowledge, skill, or enthusiasm in their area.

End of KS3 data is used to support HA students with selecting appropriate options that are challenging and aspirational. Each HA student meets in small groups with a member of SLT / the HA team to discuss which subjects may support their chosen pathway. This is undertaken in Spring Term 1.

All HA students are invited to join The Society, an enriching and extra-curricular initiative designed to support students with raising their aspirations; providing appropriate support and training for their chosen next steps and providing wider curriculum experiences, including trips, visits guest speakers and workshops. All students are invited to participate in the Super Curriculum, offering a range of subject specific opportunities for them to explore. For details regarding these initiatives can be found in the appropriate tabs.
