Extracurricular Activities
Enrichment through Extracurricular Opportunities
Opportunities for extracurricular activities at Samuel Whitbread Academy are amazing, with over 100 clubs, teams and activities before, during and after school. We regularly arrange visits to theatres, field centres, historical sites, exhibitions, foreign countries and major sporting events such as Wimbledon. Over the last few years students have travelled to countries such as Iceland, France, Tanzania and America. Extracurricular clubs and opportunities are facilitated by late buses which run throughout our catchment area and beyond, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The vast majority of our clubs and extracurricular activities happen on these days and the buses (leaving the academy at 4.30pm) are free to all students.
Each year we have over 200 students taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh award and last year we had a record number of students gaining their Gold Award. The Arts at Samuel Whitbread are outstanding and include alumni Ben Whishaw, who is in the latest James Bond film, and Crissie Rhodes from the band The Shires. Our Christmas productions often include over 100 students of all ages and the Summer Arts Festivals include choirs, cheerleading, orchestras, dance, percussion groups, drama and several bands, with performances from many local schools and choirs.
The sports offered at Samuel Whitbread are unparalleled, with teams reaching National finals in Football, Netball, Rugby and Equestrian. All of our sports clubs are fully inclusive and welcome students of all abilities. We also have an amazing new gym which is used before, during and after school.
